Road Power. Here is an original photo that I took of road locomotives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in August of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9547 and #9693. Both are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD as EH-15's for helper service, rated at 1,500 horsepower each, but later regeared and reclassified as EF-15A's. #9547 was built in November of 1948 and retired in December of 1963, while #9693 was built in April of 1949 and retired in October of 1967. This crew is just about ready to back the engines up and couple onto the train they'll pull out of the Yard. This photo was taken near the Yard Master's Office at the eastern end of South Juniata Street. Partially visible in the distance is the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop. |
