Title:
PRR 242, L-1S, 1955
Description:
Blackhawk. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Homer T. Newton, Jr., that was taken in Phillipston, Pennsylvania, on 24 September 1955. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania 2-8-2 No. 242, Phillipston, Pa. 9-24-1955." PRR engine #242 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1916 and retired in February of 1958 after 42 years of faithful service. Note the coast-to-coast auxiliary tender with its own front-end ladder. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam In Action from Virginia to Ohio" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (880-16).
